At Parent Talk Australia we’re always looking for new ways to grow our Facebook audience without spending a fortune on advertising. We’ve been trialling the ‘invite’ button and guess what? It actually works.
It won’t bring you thousands of followers overnight but it has been helping us to steadily grow, day by day, a few likes at a time.
Best of all, it costs nothing, apart from a few minutes of your time and exercising your clicking finger.
How to use the Facebook invite button
Step 1: Share a popular article or meme that lots of people will ‘like’
To use the invite button you need to have at least 4 ‘likes’ on a Facebook post on your page. The more likes on a single post, the better.
- posting a really funny meme you’ve seen do well elsewhere
- sharing an article from a bigger page that already has a lot of interaction and ‘likes’
- posting pretty much anything from Buzzfeed. They’ve really got the whole viral thing figured out over there.
Make sure it’s content that’s relevant to your page. The people who ‘like’ it are the people you are going to invite to follow your page. If your Facebook page is ‘Toilet training for toddlers’ and the meme you share is about the World Cup it’s likely you’ll pick up plenty of people who aren’t going to care about your page.
Step 2: Invite the ‘likers’ of the post to follow your page
First, make sure you’re logged into Facebook as your personal profile (it won’t work if you’re logged in as the page).
Scroll down on your page and pick a post that has at least 4 likes, like this one.
Click on the text ’46 others’ and a box will pop up looking something like this (except the names won’t be blacked out!):
‘Invite’ is what you’re looking for. This means the person has ‘liked’ your post but hasn’t yet ‘liked’ your page. They clearly don’t know what they’re missing out on!
Now click ‘Invite’.
Yes, it’s that simple. They’ll now get a notification to ‘like’ your Facebook page. It’ll look something like this:
Does it really work?
Some will ignore it, but some will start to follow your page.
We go through the Parent Talk Australia Facebook page posts every couple of days and invite potential followers using this method. Every time we do, our audience grows by 5-6 followers overnight.
It’s not much, but it is free and over time it adds up, especially as you may have noticed that organic growth on Facebook is virtually nil these days.
Try it and let us know if it works for you. Or have you already discovered the ‘invite’ button? How’s it going?
